OUR STORY
Audio Visual Alchemy was founded on the belief that some stories demand more than simply being told. They demand to be seen.
From narrative film and documentary to music video, our work is shaped by a commitment to stories rooted in identity, culture, human rights, and lived experience. We are particularly drawn to perspectives that have been overlooked, misunderstood, or excluded from the screen.
Working across the United States and South Asia, AVA brings together cinematic storytelling and a distinctly human perspective to create work that can entertain, challenge, and stay with an audience long after the screen goes dark.

MINA JAFRIMALIK
Director • Producer • Founder
Mina JafriMalik is a director, producer, and founder of Audio Visual Alchemy. Her work spans narrative film, documentary, music video, and live production, with a particular focus on stories centered on identity, human rights, and communities too often overlooked on screen.
Her directing credits include the award-winning documentary The Asifa Bano Story and the narrative feature Jameela, as well as numerous music videos and short-form projects. Drawing on an earlier career in modeling and acting, Mina brings a performer’s sensitivity to her work behind the camera and an instinct for character-driven storytelling.
Her work has screened and received recognition at international film festivals, while her broader creative career has included live events, charitable arts programming, and productions across the United States and South Asia. She is currently focused on Children of a Lesser God, a documentary examining the discrimination and mistreatment faced by religious and caste minorities in Pakistan, including Christian, Dalit, and Shia communities.
ZAINAB MALIK
Director • Writer
Zainab “Izzy” Malik is a director and writer whose creative background spans film, music, and interdisciplinary research. She co-directed the award-winning narrative feature Jameela and has worked across narrative film, documentary, and music video, with a particular interest in stories exploring identity, culture, and social history.
Before moving further behind the camera, Izzy worked as a recording and touring artist, developing experience in songwriting, music video production, and visual storytelling. Her background in music continues to shape her approach to filmmaking.
Izzy graduated magna cum laude from UCLA with a B.A. in Political Science and later earned a Master of Legal Studies from Washington University in St. Louis. Her academic background informs her interest in power, institutions, cultural ownership, and the ways history is shaped by those who tell it. She brings these interests together in her work as a filmmaker, including the historical documentary Jewel Thief, currently in development.

DR. IMTIAZ MALIK
Writer • Producer • Executive Producer
Dr. Imtiaz Malik is a writer and producer whose creative work with Audio Visual Alchemy has always been grounded in a deeply humanitarian perspective. A practicing oncologist, his life outside film has been devoted to caring for others, an outlook that has carried naturally into the stories he helps bring to the screen.
Imtiaz served as writer and executive producer on The Asifa Bano Story, and as writer and producer on Jameela. He has also produced many of Audio Visual Alchemy’s music videos and co-wrote an original song for Jameela with Zainab Malik.
Across both careers, his work is connected by the same impulse: an interest in people, their dignity, and the stories that deserve greater attention.
RAZIA JAFRI
Executive Producer
Razia Jafri is an educator, administrator, world traveler, and executive producer of Jameela. Fiercely independent and an ardent feminist, Razia has spent her life guided by a simple conviction: anything a man can do, a woman can do too.
A school teacher by profession, she also worked as an administrator at Dr. Imtiaz Malik’s hospital in Pakistan, balancing both roles with the independence and determination that have defined her life.
Her curiosity about the world, belief in women’s independence, and unwavering support of her family have made her part of the spirit behind Audio Visual Alchemy. Away from work, she is an enthusiastic traveler and can most often be found planning her next journey or thoroughly spoiling her grandniece, Zainab.
